Maureen and Garth love the outdoors. It gives them a chance to reconnect while their two dogs – the noble pug Toby and slightly blind Boston Terrier Missy – claim acres of new territory and dozens of new trees.
Before the campgrounds have even opened, they’re hard at work pulling the cover off their fifth-wheel, checking bearings in the wheels and flushing out the water system in preparation for a summer under the stars, around the fire.
Maureen settles in to a good book at the campsite while Garth reacquaints himself with all the mechanics of his temporary mobile home. Nothing is rushed here – this is a chance to refresh the mind, cook outside and enjoy late Canadian sunsets before retiring to bed. It may not sound like much but for the many people like Maureen and Garth, nature is a way to rejuvenate the soul.
As they spend their days outside, their fifth-wheel offers comfort and the ability to stay dry if they happen to run into a day of rain. There’s even a deck of cards in one of the drawers. At night, they’re happy they left their tenting days far behind as they cozy up in their warm bed until morning. Toby and Missy seem to enjoy it too. Exhausted after a full day exploring, they happily hop up into the fifth-wheel and rest.
As is Canadian tradition, Maureen and Garth pack their summers with as many weekend camping trips and week-long journeys as time will allow, knowing in the back of their mind that come fall, we’ll begin the long process of hibernation again.
Garth and Maureen do an excellent job of caring for all their assets, especially those that give them the freedom to enjoy life. Throughout the winter, Garth checks on their fifth-wheel to ensure the tough Canadian weather isn’t taking too much of a toll. And they have bundled all their insurance together – home and content, vehicle and trailer – to keep everything safe and secure. It’s a good move that offers peace of mind so when the days get long enough, they can easily get on the road under into their favourite camping spots and enjoy being Weekend Warriors.
